Letter from the outgoing ICC President 2016 - Fengcheng Wang
With finishing my presidency by now, I would like to thank you all for your help, support, and collaboration during this period with special thanks to all staff at ICC Headquarters who have worked hard to reach out to our members and realizing the Association's aims. Our objectives to develop an association that is represented globally as well as to bring more services to its members have been pursued during the past two years. Several new members have joined our association. We are pleased to welcome the Australian Export Grains Innovation Centre as the new ICC country member organization for Australia, three new corporate members: International Industrial Academy, Russian Union of Flour Mills and Cereal Plants, and JSC "Ortus Malgrain" from Russia, one new corporate member Kastenmüller GmbH from Germany, and another new corporate member RBML Food Microbiology Labs from Lebanon. ICC also newly offers individual membership which is open for any natural person wishing to promote and contribute to the aims and activities of the Association.
The past two years were also an opportunity to make the international activities of our organization more visible by seeking to respond ever more to the needs of our members as well as to act as a partner involved in international and EU funded research projects (e.g. iFAAM, MycoSpec, Capsuled, MyNewGut, and MyToolBox). ICC has also contributed to the dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge by organizing international conferences in different regions of the world.....(15th ICC Cereal and Bread Congress in Istanbul Turkey, 3rd ICC Latin American Cereal Conference in Curitiba Brazil, ICC/AISTEC Conference "Grains for Feeding the World" in Milan Italy, 6th International Dietary Fiber Conference in Paris France, 9th International Symposium of Food Science in Shenyang China, and 30th EFFoST International Conference in Vienna Austria). On 31 March 2015, we held the 60th Anniversary of ICC on the occasion of the 3rd ICC Latin American Cereal Conference in Curitiba Brazil. It is a great pleasure that so many ICC Members including six ICC Past Presidents attended the celebration with us where the ICC 60 Years Brochure was published and distributed. Moreover, ICC has offered new membership services with increased benefits and involvement such as an improved free online access to QAS Journal, a free online access to ICC Standards and Regulatory Updates for Country Members, National Delegates and Deputies, and having greater named person representation involved in ICC activities and working groups. The ICC website has been updated and the ICC online store is extended with all electronic and printed publications available.
This period was also marked by an in-depth reflection within ICC to better share our vision for the future and to better involve every member of ICC in both strategic activities and dissemination. The missions of ICC Governing Committee and Executive Committee as well as the ICC Statutes and By-Laws have been revised in order to improve efficiency of our organization by providing a clear and easy to follow structure. To strengthen the ICC standardization work, the ICC Technical Committee, an important representative body for ICC, was also restructured with a wide range of expert representatives of the various ICC members. Eng. Amine Jbeily was elected as new Technical Director and the former Technical Director, Dr. Meinolf Lindhauer continues to share his valuable experience and support Amine and the new Technical Committee as Technical Co-Director. We highly appreciate Dr. Lindhauer’s contribution to leading ICC standardization for more than 10 years and they have been ready to lead the new Technical Committee working better on developing and updating cereal related standard methods. Other projects have been initiated in the form of working groups (Membership and benefits, Conference models, Trainings and workshops, Standardization and validation, and ICC-AACCI collaboration, etc.).
All this work would not have been possible without the help of the whole ICC team and the wise advice of the Governing Committee members. It was a pleasure working with all of them forming a friendly and efficient team. It is also time to thank Michaela Pichler who ensured her mission as a new Secretary General of ICC having worked with us since January 2015.
As my role will move to that of Immediate Past President I would like to wish my successor Dr. Hamit Köksel from Turkey to succeed in finalizing all these projects. I would also like to congratulate Dr. Stefan Wagener from Canadian Grain Commission, Canada as incoming ICC President Elect. The new period ahead will see the arrival of new Presidents. I assure them both of my personal support for the coming years and I express my best wishes for them to lead ICC closer to our goals and to satisfy the Association's expectations.
On behalf of ICC, I would like to wish you a blessed holiday season and a successful new year!
