Food Security: ICC Standards in the Spotlight
ICC Standard methods are internationally recognised and respected and have been used in grain trading since their inception nearly 50 years ago. In 1955 food security concerns in war shaken Europe were the drivers for establishing ICC. Today, the need for ICC Standards has never been greater in order to ensure high quality and safe cereal foods, and to promote worldwide food security. There are many major developments taking place in the area of cereal food analysis, especially with regard to rapid methods of analysis. Here especially ICC is playing a leading role through the coordination of the EU Project MoniQA - Monitoring and Quality Assurance in the Food Supply Chain, and the involvement of various bilateral initiatives with institutions and governments in countries affected by hunger and other forms of food insecurity.
